Good morning. It's Wednesday, September 22, 2010, and this is your first early morning Kids briefing.
DC Entertainment (DCE) unveiled its bi-coastal plan, which will see its business related to the development and production of feature films, TV, digital media, video games and consumer products and administrative functions to Warner Bros. property Burbank, California. Meanwhile DC Comicspublishing operations will remain in New York. Moving the year-old DCE to California supports the company's efforts to integrate its business/brand/characters into Warner Bros.' feature films and multiple other Warner Bros. and Time Warner distribution platforms. DCE's move to California is expected to be complete by the end of 2011.
NEW PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT
Carla Gugino (Race to Witch Mountain, Night at the Museum, and the upcoming Sucker Punch) joins the cast of Fox's family feature film of Mr. Popper's Penguins, per Variety. The movie already stars Jim Carrey, which is based on Richard and Florence Atwater's classic 1938 kids book of the same name. Mark Waters is directing the live-action movie and John Davis and his Davis Entertainment are producing.

MORE KIDS STUFF
Hole in the Wall joins Cartoon Network's Wednesday night programming line-up on October 6 at 7:30p. The night will also include new episodes of the network's reality series Dude, What Would Happen at 8p and Destroy Build Destroy at 8:30p. Hosted by Teck Holmes (The Real World Hawaii), pits two teams of families against one another in the humorous game show. Hole in the Wall is produced by FremantleMedia North America, with Scott St. John serving as executive producer.
Nickelodeon will premiere two new hour-long preschool specials based on its popular series Go, Diego, Go! and Ni Hao, Kai-lan. The Go, Diego, Go! special, Diego's International Rescue League, will debut Friday, September 24 at 10a. Actress Lucy Liu (Charlie's Angles, Kill Bill Vol. 1) will guest star as the Bear Queen in the Ni Hao, Kai-lan special, Princess Kai-lan, which is set to premiere Friday, October 8 at 1p. Both specials will simulcast on Nick Mobile.
CBC (Canada) commissions DHX Media for a third season of the animated preschool seriesAnimal Mechanicals, bringing the total number of episodes to 73x11. In addition to producing the action/adventure series, DHX Media also handles the licensing and merchandising for Animal Mechanicals and will be at Brand Licensing Europe seeking new licensees. The series airs around the world and is set to debut in the US this fall on The Hub.
MARKETING/LICENSING
DQ Entertainment (DQE) enters into a licensing deal for The Jungle Book in Germany withUniversal Trends, along with co-production partner ZDF Enterprises. Under the three-year pact, Universal holds the licensing and merchandising across Germany, Austria and Switzerland for figurines, puzzles, board games and outdoor toys (e.g. surprise bags, 'gotchaballs', key rings, fabric figures) and outdoor games (e.g. inflatables, sporting goods, beach toys and backpacks).
4sight licensing solutions enters into a license deal with European Home Designs (EHD) to produce pet beds and bedding products (pet blankets, throws and pillows) under the American Kennel Club (AKC) brand in the US. Paris-based Planet Nemo Productions grows its sales team with the appointment of Jorge Patino Donaggio as International Sales Manager. Based in Barcelona, Patino Donaggio will report to Director/International Sales & Co-Productions, Nathan Waddington in London. Patino Donaggio most recently served as Manager/International Sales and Acquisitions, Edebe Audiovisual.
